SPARK YOUR PASSION
What will you bring to our college campus? How will your personality make our school a more interesting place? How will you impact fellow students and the neighboring community? These are some of the questions college admissions officers ask as they evaluate applications. All colleges want motivated and distinctive students who express a genuine zest for learning and for life.
Too often, key features of a student’s personal profile such as extra-curricular activities are undeveloped. Yet, this profile has become ever so important to admissions committees. Our Spark Your Passion program shows students how to creatively explore their passions and expand their interests through a strategic plan that spans the high school years.
 THE PLAN Review the student’s current talents and interests
Develop a strategic plan for extra-curricular activities
Recommend outside classes and volunteer service
Advise on internships and summer travel/enrichment
Begin building the student’s resume
THE ACTION Reassess the strategic plan throughout high school
Revise activities as needed
Track awards, recognition, recommendation letters and publications/press
THE RESULT Create a one to two-page resume and student profile to accompany the applications
Ideally, strategic planning begins in the ninth grade to allow enough time for students to participate in the suggested activities and projects. Juniors or seniors can also benefit from expanding their current activities to enrich their personal profiles.
