LUNCH N' LEARN
These 30 to 40-minute seminars focus on one particular step of the college roadtrip giving parents a solid overview and allowing ample time for questions.
DON'T LET THE COLLEGE PROCESS PSYCHE YOU OUT!
In this introductory seminar, we show parents how to psyche out the process. We'll cover
developing a college list; personalizing a timeline for the student's college journey; minimizing the stress and making the high school counselor an important ally.
STANDARDIZED TESTING ~ SAT, ACT, AP, IB
Enough acronyms to confuse any parent. Yet, standardized tests are one of the most critical portions of the college process. We'll explain and recommend a timetable for the SAT I Reasoning test; SAT II subject exams; the ACT option and AP & IB exams.
SPARK YOUR KIDS' PASSIONS...NOW!
A student's college application must reflect his/her interests, hobbies, and passion - the buzzword of today's admissions officers. Here, we'll address jobs and internships, clubs and organizations; community service and recommendation letters.
CAMPUS VISITS
The college visit is not just a quick look around, it's a critical first step in the entire college process. Nothing gives you a better sense of a school than walking around the campus and feeling its spirit. Important tips include what to do before, during and after the visit; college fairs and other resources.
THE COLLEGE APPLICATION
There are a number of application options available to students. We'll detail the common application versus school-specific application; supplemental forms; applying early and the importance of monitoring the application once it's been sent.
ADMISSIONS ESSAYS
The National Association for College Admissions Counseling recently reported that admissions officers now consider the college essay more important than the student's class rank. We'll highlight the personal statement - what it really needs to say; supplemental essays and the value of essay guidance.
ONCE YOU'RE IN...NOW WHAT?
Phew! It's all over and your son/daughter is now officially a "college freshman." Now, let's talk about letting go; dates to remember and shopping - what's not on the Bed, Bath & Beyond dorm list.
